Alina Amir, Business Development

Alina is one of the four co-founders at Arus. She strategises to ensure the long term sustainability of Arus. Before Arus, Alina graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and was an analyst at Accenture before teaching History as a Teach For Malaysia fellow for four years in a public school. Alina loves hiking and is currently trying to be fitter than her dad in cycling.

Felicia Yoon, Financial Controller

Felicia, a co-founder of Arus, stops us from overspending and ensures that we have sufficient funds to run Arus. She graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science with a degree in Actuarial Science. She was a TFM Fellow in Penang and taught for two years. Felicia was a volunteer during the 2012 Olympics in London. She truly believes that Manchester United rocks.

Daniel Russel, Academy Director

Daniel co-designs the Arus curriculum and ensures academy classes are run smoothly. He makes sure the space well-equipped for making and learning. Before co-founding Arus, Daniel studied Mechanical Engineering at Multimedia University and was a Teach For Malaysia fellow who taught for 2 years. Daniel loves History. He sees historical information as little jigsaw pieces that make a big puzzle.

David Chak, Curriculum Director

David is responsible for ideating and designing the academy curriculum. He completed his degree in Psychology, minoring in Computer Science from McGill University. Prior to co-founding Arus, David was a Teach For Malaysia fellow where he initiated Project Afterschool Coding Enterprise (ACE), a precursor to Arus. David loves Sid Meier’s Civilization so much that he vows to visit all the wonders featured in the game within his lifetime.

Azrina Azmi, Maker Space Coordinator

Azrina is responsible for managing and running the Maker Studio and also designs content and teach classes for Arus Academy. She graduated with a B.Sc. in Nutrition and Dietetics from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was a TFM Fellow prior to joining Arus. In 2016, Azrina fulfilled a lifelong fascination with outer space when she got to meet a real astronaut and played mission control Commander during her space camp week under the Honeywell Educators at Space Academy scholarship. Azrina loves to say that she read books constantly but rarely finds time for it. She instead listens to podcasts and calls that “reading”.

Mei Ching, Academy Teacher

Mei Ching designs content and teaches classes for Arus Academy. Prior joining Arus, Mei Ching studied at Imperial College London under JPA scholarship before teaching in Sarawak for 2 years under Teach for Malaysia. During her second year of teaching in Sarawak, she had the opportunity to participate a one-week space camp under Honeywell Educators at Space Academy scholarship. Now, Mei Ching organises space camps in Arus during school holidays and constantly working on improving the themes as well as content for future space camps.

Yi Thing, Academy Teacher

Yi Thing creates content, conducts workshops and teaches classes in Arus@Penang. She did her degree in Chemistry at Universiti Sains Malaysia. She dislikes how technology is over simplifying our experiences and hence embracing the tiny bits of bitter sweet in life. She enjoys the battle with perseverance during her last Penang Bridge Full Marathon, which motivated her to run for the second time.

Yi Hoong, Makerspace Coordinator

Yi Hoong manages the makerspace in Arus@Alma. He assists our teachers on technical matters for our programmes. He did his bachelor’s degree in Polymer Engineering at UNIMAP and his master’s degree in Materials Engineering at USM. During his free time, Yi Hoong likes to compose songs, repair broken items and explore with different materials to make something useful; eg. wood, plastics, cement.
